Promoting the health and wellbeing of people in the Kimberley, across their lifespan, in a range of settings where people live, work, learn and play.

Health Promotion and Community Programs

As a primary health care organisation, Boab Health Services recognises the essential need for health promotion and preventative health initiatives to prevent or delay the onset of chronic health conditions. We aim to promote the health and wellbeing of people in the Kimberley, across their lifespan, in a range of settings where people live, work, learn and play. 

Some examples our health promotion activities include:

Allied Health Team 

School-based nutrition education and cooking skills classes, healthy meal or menu planning with community groups and organisations including school canteens, Staying Healthy in the Kimberley monthly radio segment with Waringarri radio, upskilling healthcare providers on foot health checks, diabetes management, nutrition best-practice or other organisational in-services.

Mental Health Team

School-based art therapy programs, Circle of Security training, Books on Prescription in partnership with local Kimberley libraries, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Courses, Art for Wellbeing community art exhibition, Balgo community development program and community events such as R U Okay.

Integrated Team Care Program

Advocacy for social justice to reduce the health inequalities for Aboriginal people in the Kimberley. This includes recognition of the unique health care needs for Aboriginal people and advocating for Aboriginal people to stay on country, or minimising the length of stay away from country, when accessing specialist care. Other examples include activities such as community events for example; Close the Gap day, NAIDOC week and the development of localised resources to support health literacy and education.

Health Promotion Within Boab Health

Boab Health Services is committed to providing a workplace which supports and encourages a healthy lifestyle. We aim to make the healthy choice the easy choice. Our healthy workplace plan and policies support the creation of a healthy work environment including; a smoke-free setting, weekly staff fruit bowl, sit-to-stand desks, communal rubbish bins, a workplace bicycle and staff incentives such as a work-life-balance policy and benefits.
