Second Podiatrist joins Kununurra team

We are thrilled to welcome second podiatrist, Lucy Shorter, to our East Kimberley Allied Health team.

After many years advocating for additional support to address the high need for podiatry care in the region, the appointment of a second podiatrist to service the vast East Kimberley is a welcome addition for our Kununurra team, and more importantly the people in our community.

Supporting almost 800 podiatry clients across 15 locations (Kalumburu to Balgo and many places in between)  the appointment of a second podiatrist for Allied Health Team Leader and Podiatrist, Ginny Black has been a welcome relief.

Ginny says “I’m so excited to have another podiatrist based here in Kununurra. It’s been something I’ve been advocating for since I arrived in the Kimberley a few years ago.

With the high number of people living with diabetes in the Kimberley and the high rates of lower limb amputations and foot complications due to diabetes, it’s startling to only have one podiatrist in such a large area with such high demands on the service.

I’m just so excited to have Lucy here permanently to support our clients with the best care available”.

Lucy will be working with Ginny to continue to support our high-risk clients on a more frequent basis and continue to provide high quality care to our existing clients with the aim to reduce our waitlists in all locations.

The timing of Lucy joining our team couldn’t be better. Waitlists for our podiatry service have increased recently due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Our podiatrists provide a high-risk foot model of care aiming to reduce the likelihood of complications through prevention, screening, assessment, treatment and education.
