About the Boab Health Services Paediatric Nutrition Service

Boab Health currently employs two Paediatric Nutritionists across the Kimberley region, based in Broome and Kununurra, and servicing several towns and remote communities throughout the Kimberley. The Paediatric Nutritionists specialise in promoting optimal nutrition for pregnant women, infants, children and teenagers to help them have the best start in life. They understand the crucial role of nutrition at an early stage in preventing chronic diseases and ensuring the child can grow to be the best they can be. Our Paediatric Nutritionists advocate to improve the wellbeing of individuals, communities and the population as a whole, through better access and awareness of good food and nutrition.

Veggie facePaediatric Nutritionists are responsible for a wide range of services including:

– nutrition consultation

– local area policy development

– health promotion with groups and schools

– staff upskilling and education

– program planning & implementation.

Our Paediatric Nutritionists also provide one-on-one clinical consultations in Aboriginal Medical Service clinics in Broome, Derby, the Peninsular communities, Kununurra and Halls Creek.

 

Boab Health Services’ nutritionists have a tertiary qualification in the area of nutrition and dietetics. Boab Health Services Paediatric Nutritionists deliver services in accordance with Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) Best Practice Guidelines. Referrals for clinical services are accepted from all health professionals with patient consent. Referral criteria include, but are not limited to:

  • Antenatal dietary concerns
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Infant and child growth concerns
  • Infant and child feeding difficulties
  • Fussy eating
  • Anaemia (in pregnancy or infancy)
  • Food allergy and intolerance in childhood
  • Childhood obesity
  • Diabetes in children
  • Childhood chromosomal, metabolic and auto-immune diseases

 

How do I refer to the Paediatric Nutrition Service?

To facilitate efficient allied health consultation comprehensive clinical information is required. The preferred referral format is the Boab Health Services  Allied Health Referral Form . Although referrals will be accepted via alternative formats (e.g. MMEx referral forms, MR52), Boab Health referral forms are a guide to the clinical information required.

Referrals will be accepted via:

  • Post (all referrals should be directed to the Broome office: PO Box 1548, Broome WA 6725)
  • Fax: 08 9192 7999 (all referrals to Broome office)
  • MMEx (“Boab Health Allied” account / not to individual clinicians)
