Healthy Snacks, Healthy Weight at Broome Boulevard

Emma HWWBoab Health Dietitians Emma Robinson and Jackie Gillin teamed up with WA Country Health Services dietitian Katie Johnstone during  Australia’s Healthy Weight Week,  to try and clarify some of the confusion around ‘Healthy Snacks’, a topic that community members raise regularly with the nutrition team. A complimentary display area was provided by Broome Boulevard outside Woolworths, and  visual impact was used to display fat content, sugar content, salt content and cost of various common snacks. A healthy snack example of easy to make tzatziki and crudites was made on the day and tasters offered to passing shoppers.

All staff involved and many community members agreed that this was a very effective way of educating on the nutrition content of various snacks. The fat and sugar visual blocks were very successful, and will be used again in the future. For more information about the stall and the public’s reaction to the displays please see Healthy Snacks, Healthy Weight Evaluation.
